The lawn is the “heart” of the garden. In order to enjoy a dense, lush green carpet of lawn, in addition to the usual care, you also need the right “nutrition”.
The green area should be supplied with a special long-term lawn fertilizer three times a year. The lawn-specific composition of the ingredients ensures a hard-wearing, lush green and hard-wearing turf. The advantage of this fertilizer is the continuous release of nutrients over a period of three months. This depot effect ensures magnificent growth and at the same time protects against over-fertilization.
In spring: to promote he althy and rapid growth and to prevent the spread of weeds and moss.
At the beginning of summer: to increase resistance to summer heat and drought.
In autumn: to strengthen it for the winter season and for early greening in spring.
The most important nutrients for a lush green
- Nitrogen: makes the grass grow, ensures its green color,
- Phosphorus: promotes root growth:Potassium: is the tonic against disease, dryness and cold,
- Iron and magnesium: against the yellowing of grass (chlorosis).
How to properly fertilize the lawn? The fertilizer is sprinkled on the cut, preferably scarified, lawn. A fertilizer cart can be very helpful in applying fertilizer economically and evenly. If there is no rain after fertilization, it is essential to water abundantly to reduce the risk of “burns” caused by too concentrated doses.
The same applies to lawns: conventional mineral fertilizer dissolves quickly, works quickly, but is not sustainable. Organic fertilizer stays in the soil longer, acts slowly, and ensures a dense turf. (A thin layer of compost sifted onto the lawn is a wonderful spring treatment!) Organic-mineral fertilizers combine the advantages of both types!
Please note: Lawns in the shade need less fertilizer than lawns in full sun!!!
Advantages of lawn fertilizer with weed killer (depending on variety)
- Active ingredients are absorbed via leaves and roots
- Combating clover and typical lawn weeds
- Successes become apparent after just two weeks
- Good against dandelions, buttercups, plantains, chickweed, chamomile, hornwort, orach, shepherd's purse, common brownnock, dock, daisies, gunsel and others
- Many fertilizers and weed killers are not effective against groundweed and unwanted grasses (pay attention to the information leaflet or label on the packaging!)
- Gaps caused by dying weeds close quickly.
- Bees and other insects are generally not endangered (pay attention to this when buying!)
Application
- Usable from May to September
- Use in rain-free weather!
- It shouldn't rain the following day either!
- Night temperatures not below 10 °C!
- Do not use in the sowing year!
- Apply 2 to 3 days after mowing, if possible in the morning!
- Watere for about 10 minutes after 2 to 3 days!
- With normal weed infestation, one application per year is sufficient, ideally in spring.
- It may be repeated after 5 to 6 weeks.
- Important: do not overdose!
- Mowing can be carried out just 3 to 4 days after application.
- Always read the package leaflet!
Important!
Always pay attention to protecting the environment! Most agents must not be used on areas where there is a risk of them being washed into a body of water, whether through rain or irrigation. A minimum distance of 5 meters from water should be maintained! Do not feed the cuttings! Some products are not intended for use in home and allotment gardens. But they can be purchased by anyone. Be careful!
Conclusion
When you use lawn fertilizer with weed killer, you literally kill two birds with one stone. The lawn receives nutrients, can grow and thrive well and at the same time the weeds are prevented from growing and spreading and even eliminated. However, not all products offered in stores deliver what they promise. Most of the time, just trying it out helps. It is important to adhere to the dosage and also the instructions on the packaging. Depending on the product, they can be quite different. There are differences, especially when rinsing after use.
Other special fertilizers include tomato fertilizer.
