If you are tired of buying tomatoes in the supermarket or using goods from abroad, you can also help yourself. It's easy and not particularly expensive to grow tomato plants in your own garden.

But what is important here is that there is appropriate protection for the tomato plants. Because tomatoes are very sensitive.

If it rains, rot can quickly occur and, in the worst case, the tomato plant will die. If it is too cold, the frost can affect the tomato. So a protective device is needed.

Best solution is a tomato house. You don't necessarily have to buy this in stores. You can also build a tomato house yourself. This doesn't require a lot of building material and it can be done in a timely manner. All you need is wood and a foil.

To do this, take several wooden posts that are set up in a square shape to create a stable wooden structure. The posts should have a certain height so that the hobby gardener can handle the care and/or harvesting of the tomato plants more easily and better.

Small wooden crossbars are placed on the posts, which in turn are covered with the film already mentioned. The film can either form the side walls and run up to the door opening, but a wooden wall can also provide the shielding.

The be-all and end-all of the tomato house: the water-repellent film

The purpose of the film is to keep out rain and moisture. It must therefore not be permeable, but must specifically repel water.

An even simpler form of tomato house are the so-called foil bags, which can simply be placed over the tomato plants like a mobile tomato house. They also provide adequate protection for the plants from frost and rain and also have a type of automatic drainage system. So if you are not particularly skilled in craftsmanship, you can also use this variant.

In whatever form a tomato house is created or is built: it is of course not only suitable for tomato plants, but also ideal for other plants such as peppers, cucumbers, eggplants, zucchini, melons and many others.

Tip:

The low effort and low material costs are worth it twice or threefold for the garden owner.
