The rose is considered the queen of flowers. With its slender growth, majestic flowers and unsurpassed scents, a rose flatters every gardener. In addition to red roses in all shades, yellow roses are an ornament for every garden or balcony.
There are currently almost 2,000 different rose varieties. Each rose name can only be used once in the entire world. Roses are named after well-known personalities, events, seasons, seasonal events or are named after their scent.
Importance and Care of Yellow Roses
While the red rose represents love, yellow roses have a completely different meaning. They say, “It’s nice to be friends with you.” They express gratitude for the host and represent joy in life. Several yellow roses say: “I forgive you”. If you want to enjoy roses for a long time, you have to choose the right location in your garden:
- Roses need air and light for abundant flowering.
- With dry leaves, roses are less susceptible to diseases such as powdery mildew or rose rust.
- The soil should contain clay, sand and humus. Light soils can be improved with manure or compost.
- Roses should be watered once or twice a week. The leaves should not be wetted with water.
- Even in very dry conditions, the water requirement does not increase because roses are deep-rooted.
- Fertilization takes place in three stages from March to the beginning of August. The first fertilization in spring contains compost.
- Special rose fertilizer follows at the end of May and the end of July. If you fertilize later than the beginning of August, you risk the rose freezing to death in winter.
- Fertilizer applications prevent the branches from becoming woody.
- In autumn, roses are piled up to protect them from frost. The earth wall should be 15 to 20 cm high and cover the lowest eyes of the rose.
- Shrub roses, standard roses and climbing roses are completely wrapped with frost protection.

What you should know about yellow roses in brief
The rose is a queen. Accordingly, it places special demands on its care. In return, she delights her owners several times a year with a unique, fragrant flower bloom. Yellow roses are said to symbolize jealousy, distrust and doubt. However, they are also considered an ideal form of expression for gratitude and forgiveness. In this case, individual yellow roses represent jealousy and doubt, bouquets of yellow roses represent gratitude and forgiveness. As a subspecies of the yellow rose, the orange roses represent enthusiasm for a person.
Probably the most famous yellow rose is the “Gloria Dei”. Because of its growth, the shape of the flowers and the extraordinary coloring of the flowers, it is an absolute noble rose. The flowers are light yellow with a red edge, a shade that is the hallmark of Gloria Dei. The plant grows to a height of approx. 60 cm and the flowers grow individually on long stems. For this reason, this rose can also be wonderfully kept in vases inside the home. In addition, the rose only fades slowly, which increases the enjoyment of this cut rose. The scent is very light and reserved; the flowers are often confused with those of the peony. But it is still the most common rose in German gardens, especially because it blooms often and profusely, is easy to care for and is weatherproof, although not frost hardy.
The rose “Charlotte” disguises its variety with its extraordinary flowers. As the flower cycle progresses, it appears more similar to a ranunculus than a rose, for example. Nevertheless, this plant is a typical representative of English roses: richly double flowers, a subtle scent and a reserved flower color characterize this wonderful rose. The scent is wonderfully reminiscent of that of tea roses, which, together with the extraordinary blossom, makes this rose a true rarity. The rose Charlotte is approx. 90 cm high and has a distinctive growth habit, and the rose also blooms several times. Above all, this rose is characterized by the fact that it often has no diseases or pests, making it the ideal rose for the garden, but it cannot be kept in a pot.
The rose “Amber Hit” is characterized by particularly strong colors, small flowers and a particularly sweet, intense scent. It is yellow to amber in color, a true rarity among yellow roses. Due to its growth height of only 40 cm, it is an ideal ground cover rose that transforms any front garden into an abundance of yellow flowers. The special shape of the petals and the fact that the flowers are small and close together make this rose a real feast for the eyes and a highlight in every garden.
In Scandinavia, “Lucia” in December is a symbol of light in the darkness. The rose Light Queen Lucia provides light in every garden with its bright yellow flowers. Above all, the large growth of 1.50m and the exceptionally high number of light yellow flowers make the rose Light Queen Lucia a highlight in every garden. The plant also has good frost resistance and is also suitable for hedge planting. The flowers have a very intense scent, which further enhances the magic that this rose exudes.
