If you decide on a stone grave cover, then it is a decision for a long time that you will not be able to take back. And there are definitely reasons for that.
On the one hand, a stone grave cover is quite expensive to purchase and on the other hand, it is a good way to beautify the grave with few resources. This saves you the trouble of planting regularly, as the stone slab usually covers most of the grave. However, due to the constant influence of the weather, this becomes affected over time and then requires thorough cleaning and care.
How to clean stone gravestones
Most people choose marble or granite when choosing a grave slab. Here the surfaces can be very different depending on the material and vary between rough and smooth surfaces. Moss and dirt can collect, especially on rough surfaces. Never treat surfaces with vinegar, as this can leave unsightly stains on many types of stone. The trade offers you various products, each of which is designed and tailored to the relevant type of stone.
- You can simply scrub off light dirt with a brush and a little water.
- For stubborn dirt, use the stone cleaner mentioned above, which you first massage in with a brush. To achieve the desired effect, you should let the cleaner soak in for a good hour and then rinse thoroughly with water.
- If the stains are still visible, only a high-pressure cleaner can help.
- Once all dirt has been removed, polish the stone slab with a special impregnation agent.
The cost of a grave cover and its maintenance
In contrast to a completely planted grave, grave maintenance for a grave with a stone slab is slightly cheaper. Even if the stone slab is a bit expensive to purchase at first, over the years you will save a lot of money that you would otherwise have to invest in grave planting. It is often difficult, especially for older people, to take care of the grave themselves and they therefore hand it over to a grave care service or to the cemetery gardener.
What costs you will incur depends on the cemetery or the grave care provider commissioned. Then there are the respective wishes - how should the grave be planted, which grave cover should be chosen for the cold season? Should flowers or arrangements be placed on the grave on special days - holidays, death anniversary, birthday or death anniversary?
For complete grave care, depending on the grave, you have to calculate between 4,000 and 7,000 euros for a period of 25 years.
