A hobby gardener not only enjoys his garden paradise, which is designed and maintained according to his individual ideas, but above all also the fruits of his labor in the form of fresh fruit and vegetables from his own garden.
It has always been customary to preserve fruits and vegetables so that there is varied and enjoyable food on the table even in autumn and winter. Processing fruit into jams, jams and jellies is particularly popular. These can be used as toppings for desserts or for morning breakfast, but are also a popular souvenir when visiting.
Below you will find some advice on how you can make practical and original labels for your jam jars. This not only ensures order and clarity in your storage cellar. A lovingly labeled jam jar also looks much more impressive.
About effort and benefit – meaning and purpose of labels
Labeling the preserved fruit is not only important to get a quick overview of the contents. You can also note on the label when you canned the fruit. This means you know immediately what will last for how long and/or what should be used soon. Some fruits, such as strawberries, can be preserved as jam. However, the jam turns brown after a certain time. This doesn't harm the taste, but it doesn't look as appetizing anymore.
If you want to have as little effort as possible when labeling your preserving jars, buy self-adhesive labels from a stationery store and stick them on the jar after labeling.
Jam jars can be beautifully decorated with just a little more effort. To do this, for example, take a napkin or a piece of cloth and cut it to fit the size of the lid. The cutting should be slightly larger than the lid so that you can tie the piece with a decorative ribbon underneath the lid. Which band you use is entirely up to your taste. Gift ribbons are just as suitable for this as a simple hemp cord. Now you can, for example, tie a bow and label the lid or napkin. A self-adhesive label is also suitable.
You can also cut out any shape from a piece of paper, e.g. a circle, and write down when you made the jam and what kind of jam it is. Feel free to be creative and create your own names. How about “Heavenly Strawberry” instead of “Strawberry Jam”? Make a hole in the label and push the end of the ribbon that you previously tied around the lid through the label hole.
This idea can be combined in many ways, for example by completely foregoing labeling the contents and instead simply attaching a picture of the processed fruit to the glass. You can use pictures you have painted yourself, or you can print out pictures from the Internet.
If you like, you can also make banderoles for your jam jars. To do this you need
- Paper,
- scissors
- and glue.
First, you should cut the paper to the desired width of the band to make it easier to handle. Then measure the length of the paper you need. To do this, wrap the paper around the glass until the paper touches. After the sheet of paper has been trimmed to the appropriate length and width, it can be labeled as desired. Due to the large area available to you, this type of labeling is ideal for jams that are to be given away. In addition to the name of the content, there is still enough space for good wishes and greetings to the recipient.
Creativity is required
You will see that you will have joy as soon as a jam jar labeled like this stands in front of you. But it is also clear that in summer or early autumn you have little time to beautify and decorate your jam jars. Once you have labeled them, you can do so in the cold season when there is little to do in the garden. If you like doing handicrafts, you can also crochet a “hat” for the jam jars. This is something unusual and will definitely be well received. Especially people who are used to harvesting their own fruits often don't know how happy others are about something homemade. Try it out: Give a beautifully decorated jar of preserves to your relatives or friends in the city. They will be thrilled and your loving decoration will increase the value of the souvenir enormously.

The font makes the difference
Individual labels are the crowning glory of labels. You can, for example, stamp them on. If you want it to be more splendid, decorative pens are the first choice, for example gel rollerball pens in gold and silver. Alternatively, relief stickers can be used to set elegant accents - lettering, decorative corners, numbers, there is nothing that doesn't exist.
This is awesome
Cake tips can do more than just decorate cake plates. They enchant with delicate ornaments and are only made of paper: cake tips are far too beautiful to be hidden under cakes. Elongated, oval, round, and in many sizes: the range is large, as are the opportunities to do more with them. With cake toppers, mason jars become purely decorative objects.
