Precast concrete stairs are comparatively simple and quick solutions for outdoor and indoor use. They prove to be durable and low-maintenance, can be adapted in many ways and, above all, cause low costs in the medium and long term. When building new or replacing stairs, the finished concrete variants are a cost-effective alternative.

Features

Concrete stairs have several properties that are beneficial both indoors and outdoors. These include:

  • Versatility
  • cost-effective purchase and installation
  • Consistency

Versatility

Carpet, wood paneling, cork, stone carpet, coating or stair mats - the look of the concrete stairs can be customized as desired. Of course, the basic shape and appearance remain the same. However, there are many possibilities to adapt and modify the stairs in terms of color and pattern.

Another advantage is that the stairs can be easily designed to be non-slip and are closed. This is, for example, the better and safer choice if the stairs are also used by smaller children or pets.

Cost-effective

An interior staircase connecting two floors is already available for 1,500 to 2,000 euros. For external stairs, the individual steps are available for prices between 40 and 50 euros. Of course, there are differences between the various options, as prefabricated stairs can be assembled as a whole or partially.

Consistency

Concrete stairs are resistant and long-lasting. As a rule, they last just as long as the house itself. Even outdoors, concrete stairs are resistant and durable, against weather, sunlight and other external influences.

Tip:

Concrete stairs are therefore ideal as a long-term solution.

Options

There are four types of preparation and installation for precast concrete stairs. These are:

  • Element stairs
  • Block-Steps
  • Beam Stairs
  • Support bolt stairs

Element stairs

Element stairs consist of one piece - i.e. one element. They are completely installed, which requires a crane. Prices should be between 60 and 70 euros per level. For a staircase with 15 steps that would be around 1,000 euros.

In addition, there are the costs for installation and delivery. Which brings the total costs to an average of 1,500 to 2,000 euros.

Tip:

The price depends on the number and width of the steps and the length of the delivery route.

Block-Steps

In this type of precast concrete staircase, individual elements are prefabricated and assembled on site. So it's a kind of modular system. Transport and installation are easier because the individual elements are smaller. However, this also requires more work steps during installation.

Block step stairs are often used outdoors, for example as garden stairs or entrance stairs. Prices should be between 25 and 40 euros per level. With 15 steps, the stairs cost between 375 and 600 euros. In addition, there are preparation, installation and transport, which can increase the amount to 1,000 to 1,500 euros.

Beam staircase

The beam staircase involves building a framework made of beams. They run to the side and in the middle of the steps. The concrete steps are placed on top. As with the block staircase, the acquisition costs are low. The effort required for assembly is slightly higher than with the element staircase. But transport is easier.

Support bolt stairs

In this type of staircase, one side of the steps is attached to the wall. The other side of the steps rests on scaffolding. This construction makes the staircase appear lighter and more open overall than, for example, the block staircase.

Due to the greater effort involved in planning and installation, a price of between 2,000 and 3,000 euros should be expected for a staircase with 15 steps.

Total costs

Due to the cost-effective material, only a small price has to be included for the base of the precast concrete stairs. However, there are other factors that are reflected in the overall price. These include:

  • Planning
  • Transportation
  • Installation
  • railing
  • Topping or overlays

For a concrete staircase that costs 1,500 to 2,000 euros including installation, you have to expect around the same amount for a natural stone covering. Including the railing and processing the underside of the stairs, the total costs amount to 4,000 to 5,000 euros.

Due to the sometimes large price differences, which are due not least to transport and the materials for the covering, a price comparison should always be carried out. This can save larger amounts of money.
