When the apple harvest is big again, it's a good idea to make applesauce. Filled into a few pretty screw-top jars, the delicious puree will last for a year. So you can easily make the applesauce in advance.
For approx. 700g of applesauce you will need the following in addition to screw-top jars and kitchen towels:
Ingredients
- 1 kg apples of your choice
- ½ ST Lemon
- 300ml water
- ¼ ST Vanilla Bean
Preparation
Sterilize screw-top jars and lids in boiling water for about 20 minutes and then drain on a clean kitchen towel.
Peel the apples, then quarter them and cut out the core. Then cut the apple wedges into small pieces and put them in a pot.
Halve the lemon and squeeze the juice through a sieve. Halve the vanilla pod and add the pulp.
Pour water and cook covered for about 10-15 minutes until soft. Then puree the applesauce finely and fill it into the screw-top jars. Make sure to leave approx. 1cm free to the edge. The edge should also be clean, otherwise no vacuum can form.
Tip:
Taste the applesauce and add a little sugar or sugar alternatives depending on your taste.
Put a kitchen towel in a pot and place the sealed jars on top. Then fill up with water. The glasses should be at least 1/3 covered.
Tip:
The kitchen towel prevents the glasses from rattling on the floor.
Now cook everything down at approx. 90°C for 45-60 minutes.
Remove the jars and place them with the lid down on a clean kitchen towel. Allow to cool thoroughly.
Tip:
Applesauce can also be used to bake an applesauce cake.
